Romania could rerun presidential vote, election official says
BUCHAREST, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Romania could rerun its presidential election first round, a senior election official said on Friday, after an independent far-right politician came from nowhere to win a shock victory that caused suspicions of interference in the campaign.
Calin Georgescu, 62, finished first in last Sunday's vote, and secured a place in a run-off scheduled for Dec. 8. Victory in the second round would upend Romanian politics and could undermine the country's pro-Western stance.
